CRTPO OPENS A 14-DAY SUPPLEMENTARY PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD ON THE 2024-2033 DRAFT TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM,

2050 METROPOLITAN TRANSPORTATION PLAN AMENDMENTS, AND THE AIR QUALITY CONFORMITY DETERMINATION REPORT

DUE TO NCDOT RELEASING A FINAL VERSION OF THE 2024-2033 STATE TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM

The Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization (CRTPO) has opened a supplementary 14-day public comment period to obtain public input on the 2024-2033 Draft Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), amendments to the 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP), and the air quality conformity determination report for the MTP & TIP due to NCDOT releasing a final version of the 2024-2033 State Transportation Improvement Program on April 3, 2023.

The 14-day public comment period starts today, Thursday, May 4 and will conclude on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. Final action to approve the Draft TIP and associated documents is scheduled for Wednesday, June 21, 2023, during the CRTPO Board meeting at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center.

From March 16 until April 14, 2023, the CRTPO held a 30-day public comment period to obtain public input on the 2024-2033 Draft Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), amendments to the 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP), and the air quality conformity determination report for the MTP & TIP. On April 3, 2023, NCDOT released a final version of the 2024-2033 State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) with schedule changes for 16 projects within CRTPO’s jurisdiction. The CRTPO project schedule changes from the NCDOT final 2024-2033 STIP can be viewed by clicking HERE.

Staff has reviewed the NCDOT schedule changes and determined that modifications to the 2050 MTP amendments and the draft air quality conformity determination report are not necessary.

This public comment period offers an additional opportunity for residents, business owners and other interested parties, within the Charlotte Urban Area, which includes Iredell, Mecklenburg, and portions of Union County, to submit comments to CRTPO in conjunction with the adoption of this program. CRTPO’s TIP is a subset of NCDOT’s State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP).

The draft project lists and maps are posted on the CRTPO website at crtpo.org/projects-plans-programs/TIP/2024-2033/. Comments should be directed to CRTPO using the following methods:

 E-Mail:   email@crtpo.org

Mail:       CRTPO,  Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center,  600 E. Fourth St., 8th floor, Charlotte, NC 28202

In addition, the May 17, and June 21, 2023, CRTPO Board meetings will serve as an opportunity for public comment on the 2024-2033 Draft TIP and the associated documents. The meetings begin at 6 p.m. in Room 267 of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center.

The Program of Projects required by 49 USC 5307 is a subset of the TIP and the public review and comment solicited for this TIP is intended to include and satisfy the public review and comment required under 49 USC 5307 (c) (1) through (7) for Urbanized Area Formula Program.

CRTPO is the federally designated metropolitan planning organization (MPO) for the Charlotte urbanized area. More information is available on the CRTPO website at https://www.crtpo.org/.
